In general, I am impressed with the level of automation built into Ubuntu 9.04. Last time I tried Linux a few years ago, it was nearly impossible to install a new application without knowing your way around the bash prompt or how to compile something–not something I was interested in investing time in. Most of the basic applications seem to have been included, from OpenOffice to multimedia apps. In general, Ubuntu has a very Mac OS X-esque feel to it, right down to the wording of some dialogs.

Over the weekend I experimented with basic computing tasks such as word processing, browsing the Internet, customizing the OS, and even playing movies. Things went fairly smoothly. It has only been two days, so I will skip any detailed conclusions for now, and just include a brief summary of the pros and cons so far.
